Lenovo IdeaPad Y530

Like the Y510, the 6.6-pound Y530 looks more consumer-friendly than other notebooks in Lenovo’s line form the outside: its black lid has a linen-weave textured surface and an elegant look and feel. At 14.2 x 10.3 x 1.4 inches, the notebook was slightly thicker and bulkier than other mainstream laptops; however, carrying it in a backpack on our walk home from the office didn’t cause any aches.

As with the Y510, the IdeaPad designers could have done a better job of continuing the Y530’s attractive exterior under the lid. The smooth, black and grey interior is offset by pumpkin orange media buttons, LED lights, and a volume rocker. Unfortunately, the orange reminds us of the buttons on an Atari. You won’t find Lenovo’s ubiquitous red pointing stick on the inside, but its very responsive touchpad feels soft and has little friction.

Fans of the ThinkPad keyboard will be pleased to find that Lenovo included a similar setup; the matte keys have an excellent, cushioned response, and the full-size layout feels spacious and comfortable. The trade-off is that the keyboard looks like it was lifted from a business notebook, as does the deck that surrounds it.

ASUS 12-inch N20A ultraportable Laptop

Built for heavy usage, the ASUS N20A comes with a 12.1″ monitor. Equipped with an Altec Lansing sound system that provides excellent sound clarity, plus a highly efficient eSATA hard disk drive housed in a dust and moisture-resistant enclosure, the N20A is a versatile road performer for business and personal entertainment. Asustek has unveiled details of the ASUS N20A, a new 12.1-inch ultraportable laptop with Intel Centrino 2 technology. Starting at around 4 pounds, the N20A features the latest Intel Core 2 Duo normal-voltage processor (T9400, P8600, P7350, T5800, or T5850), GMA X4500HD integrated graphics, up to 4GB of DDR2 memory, up to 320GB of hard drive space, and a DVD burner. The display has a resolution of 1280-by-800 pixels.

The Windows Vista-powered notebook includes a 1.3-megapixel web camera, 802.11n wireless and optional Bluetooth, a Gigabit LAN port, and optional support for 3G/3.5G mobile broadband. There are also HDMI and VGA outputs, three USB ports, an ExpressCard slot, eSATA port, 8-in-1 media card reader, and the Trusted Platform Module 1.2 in select models. No official word on a price just yet, but at least one retailer already has a Core 2 Duo T5800-based model available for $999.

Acer is one of the leading notebook manufacturer in the world. In fact, the company Acer is currently the largest notebook company in the world's number three. Currently, Acer is looking for ways to be able to become the top in the world, with a product that is launching the product aspire One.

So despite the extra size, the Q310 is still pretty portable and as you might have guessed already it looks more or less exactly the same as the Q210. Indeed, from the moment you unpack the Q310, you can't help but feel it's a bit of a looker, regardless of your fondness or otherwise for the daub of red on the palm-rest - something that's divided opinion in the office.
Quite apart from the coloured front, most of the machine is finished in Samsung's trademark piano black. This includes the lid and it's simple and sleek, with only the Samsung logo in discrete white lettering marring its clean surface. Its edges are also subtly curved, lending the machine a sleek overall appearance. Of course this kind of finish is as susceptible as ever to fingerprints and marks, but at least Samsung has included its usual soft cleaning cloth for keeping things looking tidy.

Apricot Picobook Pro

Apricot Computers, from the UK, shows us its Picobook Pro that looks like a variant of the Cloudbook MAX. Instead of Atom, the Picobook Pro is powered by VIA’s processor. Toshiba launches in the US its Portege R600 ultraportable notebook PC. The R600 series is an ultra portable laptop with a 12.1-inch LED backlit widescreend display. R600 is equipped with an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor SU9400 1.4GHz CPU, 3GB of memory and offers DVD Multi burner, WiFi and Bluetooth.

There are two models in the US, the R600-S4201 with 160GB hard drive and the R600-S4202 with 128GB SSD drive. The former costs $2099 while the latter is priced at $2,999.00.

MIU HDPC Mobile PCPhone with Intel Atom

Korean company Mobile Intelligent Ubiquitous (MIU) presents the new Hybrid Dual Portable Computer (HDPC), which is also known as MIU Phone, that is now powered by Atom processor. MIU’s new HDPC is basically a combination mobile computer and mobile phone.

This Atom powered HDPC features a 4-inch 800×480 LCD display, a 3 Megapixel camera, built-in GPS, DMB tuner, e-book reader, PMP functions, and FM tuner. This do-it-all device runs dual OS, Windows XP/Linux and Windows CE.

HP Compaq Presario CQ20 and CQ70 Notebook

HP launches in Hong Kong the new Compaq Presario CQ20 and CQ70 notebook PCs. Both CQ20 and CQ70 are powered by Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 processor, up to 320GB hard drive and either the integrated Intel GMA X4500 or NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GE graphic card.

Toshiba dynabook SS RX2

Toshiba introduces in Japan its new dynabook SS RX2 series replacing the old SS RX1. The dynabook SS RX2 is claimed to be the world’s lightest notebook. Based on Intel’s Centrino 2 technology, the dynabook SS RX2 is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo SU9300 1.2GHz processor, up to 3GB of RAM, Intel GS45 Express Chipset.

It comes with a 12.1-inch 1280×800 display, and support for WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n connectivity. Dynabook SS RX2 is able survival from 75cm drop, 100cc water drop and 100kg pressure. This semi-rugged notebook is available in several models. The RX2/T9GG and RX2/T9G offers 128GB SSD for storage while the RX2/T8GG, RX2/T7GG, RX2/T8G, RX2/T7G and RX2/S7G come 160GB hard drive.

J&R has added to its online shop the Asus N10 (model: N10JA2) netbook PC and priced the N10 at US $849., which is the premium version of Asus’ Eee PC netbook.

N10 features also a 10.2-inch LCD display, WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n, a fingerprint reader and a webcam. It runs Windows Vista Business. It looks like the N10 is the official version of the S101.

HP EliteBook 6930p Notebook

HP announced the new EliteBook 6930p laptop PC that offers up to 24 hours of battery life. This EliteBook 6930p utilize HP Illumi-Lite LED display for reducing power consumption.

It replace traditional hard drive with Intel’s new X25-M and X18-M Mainstream SATA SSDs that offers up to a 7 percent increase in battery life.

HP EliteBook 6930p has a 14.1-inch widescreen display. It has HP DuraCase, spill-resistant keyboard, shock-resistant SSD drives, enhanced display panels for defending data against bumps, drops and spills.

It passed the MIL-STD 810F military-standard tests.

Asus F6, F8V

Asustek has unveled the new Asus F6 13.3-inch and F8V 14.1-inch notebooks, featuring the Intel Centrino 2 mobile platform and stylish designs.

The both laptop feature the latest Core 2 Duo processors, the ATI Mobility Radeon HD3470 256MB dedicated video card, up to 4GB of DDR2 system memory, up to 320GB of hard drive space, and a built-in DVD burner or Blu-Ray drive.

There are also built-in 1.3-megapixel web camera, HDMI, VGA, Firewire, and eSATA ports, an ExpressCard slot, and 8-in-1 media card reader. The F6 and F8v have 4 and 5 USB ports respectively, as well as the Trusted Platform Module 1.2. In addition, the F8V features an optional fingerprint reader.

The F6 weighs around 4.4 pounds with a 3-cell battery and provides a choice of four different designs, while the F8 weighs approximately 5.7 pounds with a 6-cell unit and comes in five different colors.
The new laptops run Windows Vista operating system and include Express Gate mini OS “that empowers users with an 8 second boot-up time for rapid access to a host of multimedia and online applications”.

There is no official information on the pricing and availability. However, we have found a Centrino 2-based Asus F6 model (F6A-A1) with Intel’s 4500 HD integrated graphics for $949 at NewEgg.

Fujitsu L1010 Notebook

Fujitsu PC Asia Pacific announced the Fujitsu L1010 laptop PC targeted at Generation Y-ers, tech-savvy young adults. Based on Centrino 2 technology, the L1010 is powered by Intel’s Core 2 Duo processor, Intel PM45/GM45 Express Chipset and Intel WiFi Link 5300AGN for wireless connectivity.

Fujitsu L1010 has a unique hinge design such that no obvious hinge joints are revealed when its cover is closed. Fujitsu L1010 comes with built-in 1.3 Megapixel webcam and microphone for Gen Y-ers to keep connected with their friends.

This Gen-Y-oriented laptop is capable of gaming thanks to the NVIDIA GeForce 9300M GS video card with 256MB video RAM and the 14.1-inch LCD display. L1010 has HDMI out for transmission of High Definition videos to your LCD TV.

Fujitsu L1010 will be available in several colors. Pricing and availability are not yet announced.

Zepto presents the Hydra A17 gaming notebook PC. Zepto Hydra A17 is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Extreme processor, up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM, and a NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTX with 1GB of GDDR3 video RAM.

Dell Inspiron Mini 9 Netbook

Dell officially launches its Inspiron Mini 9 netbook PC. Three versions are available. All of them are powered by Atom N270 1.6GH processor, Intel GMA950 integrated graphics. They has a 8.9-inch LED 1024×600 display and WiFi 802.11g support.

The $349 Linux version of the Inspiron Mini 9 has 4GB of SSD, 512MB of memory and runs Mini OS based on Ubuntu 8.04. Dell offers 2GB of free box.net storage for this model. The $399 version gets 512MB memory, 8GB SSD and Windows XP Home. The most expensive $449 model features 1GB of RAM and 16GB SSD. It runs Windows XP Home.

Dell is currently having a offer: If you buy a Studio 15, XPS M1530 or XPS M1330 notebook, you can get the Inspiron Mini 9 for only $99. This offer end at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9 and is available for US consumers.

Asus presents the N10 netbook at the ‘ASUS World 2008′ in Korea. The N10 is the premium version of Asus’s Eee PC netbook. It is powered by Intel Atom N270 processor and NVIDIA GeForce 9300GS graphic card. It has a 10.2-inch LED backlit display. It looks like the N10 is just the same as the S101.

Dell E and E Slim Notebooks

Dell is preparing the E and E Slim mini laptop lineups. According to Engadget, Dell’s E series will come in 3 models, E Classic, E Video and E Video+. All of them are powered by Intel Diamondville processor, 512MB or 1GB of RAM, up to 16GB of storage. They will have a 8.9-inch LCD display.

E Slim series will instead come with 12.1-inch display. Both series will have support on WiFi, WiMax and Bluetooth connectivity.

MSI will release its Wind U100 mini notebook very soon. MSI’s Wind is the company’s answer to Asus Eee PC. It is equipped with an Intel processor and Intel 945GSE+ICH7M chipset. There are 512MB or 1GB of memory and you may want expand yourself to up to 2GB. It comes with an 80GB hard drive.

The U100 has a 10-inch 1024×600 LCD display, a 1.3 Megapixel camera, WiFi 802.11b/g and a 4-inch-1 card reader.

Toshiba is going to launch in Mid-July the Qosmio G50 laptop computer. Qosimo G50 will be powered by Intel’s processor, SpursEngine Quad Core HD processor, NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT graphic card with 512MB RAM and up to 500GB hard drive.

The G50 series will have a 18.4-inch TruBrite widescreen LCD display and you can also find Harman Kardon stereo speakers. Connectivity like WiFi and Bluetooth can also be found.

Acer is going to launch in Hong Kong in July the Aspire One mini laptop. The Aspire One is Acer’s answer to Asus’ Eee PC.

The Acer Aspire One is powered by an Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz CPU, 1GB of memory, 8GB of SSD for storage and Intel’s integrated GMA 850 graphic. It will support WiFi. You can also find a 5-in-1 card reader. It comes with also a SIM card slot for 3G cellular connectivity,

The Aspire One runs Linpus Linux Life and has a 8.9-inch 1024×600 CrystalBrite LCD display. The suggested price is $3,488 HKD (about $470 USD).

Dell is planning to release it low-price mini laptop, the E series in August, according to DigiTimes. Dell’s E will have a lower price than its competitors. It is priced at $299, which is $100 lower than that of Acer Aspire One.

What T1010 is missing is the Fingerprint reader that offer advanced security. The LifeBook T1010, thus, is cheaper. The price starts from US $1299
